Trailer Tuesday: YA Fantasy, Horror, and Hugh Jackman, Oh My!

After a few mediocre weeks, the Hollywood box office, Man of Steel kicked it up in June and has now broken the half billion mark. It really needs to continue to do well  in order to get a Justice League movie off the ground. You can check out my review and see if you agree! World War Z is exceeding my expectation and has already grossed $250 million in the last two weeks. I still don't foresee it breaking even, because $700 million is a pretty hefty price tag. I was pleasantly surprised to see that The Heat, the buddy-cop comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandy Bullock, out-grossed White House Down, which is essentially Die Hard with Jamie Foxx impersonating Barack Obama.

Word of the Nerd Online Presents: WOTN Theatre Spectacular!

In honor of The Tony Awards which were held last week, we decided to host our own "Theatre Specacular" podcast. I was very privileged to take the reigns as host for this special edition of the Word of the Nerd Online podcast. I'm joined by Jason Padua of Word of the Nerd Online and Rachel Proffitt of WOTN and Good Girls Gone Geek. In this podcast, we give a run-down of the Tony winners. We also discuss the highs and lows from the show. Rachel, JP, and I are all theatre people so we talked about the shows that we are excited to see and what is coming near us. We also talk about our favorite theatrical experiences as either actors or technical crew. Later, we're joined by Sean Perrault of WOTN, who helps us close out the show.

The podcast can be found here.

Head over to Word of the Nerd Online for more awesome podcasts and check out Rachel (and her partner in geek, Bex) at Good Girls Gone Geek.

Anne Hathaway's Dreams Are Killed in Les Misérables Trailer

It's here! A teaser trailer has finally been released for Tom Hooper's epic film adaptation of the Tony-award winning musical Les Misérables. In this one minute, thirty-seven second clip, we are introduced to the haunting melody of "I Dreamed a Dream" as performed by Anne Hathaway, who plays Fatine. The song acts as the backdrop to images of her co-stars Russell Crowe (Inspector Javert), Amanda Seyfried (Cosette), and Hugh Jackman (Jean Valjean) upon whose shoulders this entire film seems to rest. Crowe and Jackman are absolutely no strangers to period drama and honestly they seem at home in period costumes, especially from the 19th century. I have yet to hear Crowe sing, though he is a performer in his own right and has been recording music since the 1980s. Hugh Jackman definitely has the vocal range to pull off the role of Jean Valjean and is well acquainted with the Great White Way, having won a Tony Award for The Boy From Oz.

Hugh Jackman to lead Les Miserables cast

In my first Broadway Geek post, I talked about my love for Les Miserables. Due to scheduling conflicts, shooting on Wolverine 2 may be pushed to Spring of 2012, which could allow Les Mis, starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, to begin production in February. I. am. stoked. Jackman has a fantastic voice. He won a Tony for The Boy From Oz and has hosted the ceremony several times. He also was Executive Producer of Viva Laughlin, a musical series which appeared briefly on CBS, in which he had a small role and did a number or two. Not only can he sing, but he can dance as well! I would  absolutely love to see him in a movie adaptation of one of my favorite musicals.
