Stuff That Doesn’t Suck is a meme where I graciously share with you the things that I come across in a week that do not suck. This includes a variety of things from books to music to YouTube and even more. Feel free to join in on the comments or on your own blog.
Portions of this edition of Stuff That Doesn't Suck have been sitting in my draft folder for a month or so, so they've been making their way around the Interwebs. I still wanted to share them because reasons.
Baby Sloth Video That Doesn't Suck
This one doesn't technically count, because baby sloth videos would NEVER suck. But, I just had to share this one that I came across while browsing Facebook the other day. I never turn down a good sloth video so I had to take a look at this. First of all, good on this woman for rescuing the baby sloths. Not everyone on this planet would do that. Because of her kindness, we can enjoy more sloths on Earth. Give this woman a Nobel Prize, please.
Kristen Bell knows what's up.
Sherlock Mash-Up Video That Doesn't Suck
We all know Sherlock's affinity for the cell phone. "I prefer text." I wasn't even sure what to expect when I watched this, but it's absolutely glorious.

Broadway News That Doesn't Suck
A revival of the classic My Fair Lady is set for 2014 and top-billed actors are reportedly being courted for the role of Professor Henry Higgins. In an article from Broadway World, Ralph Fiennes seems to be a front-runner for the role of the phoneticist who attempts to turn Eliza Doolittle from cockney flower girl to well-born lady. The Broadway revival would come just in time for the 50th anniversary of the film.
Producer Clive Davis had announced that he was considering Anne Hathaway for Doolittle and Colin Firth for Higgins, but apparently the two actors were unable to commit to no more than a six month run. Davis' attention turned to Fiennes, who has reportedly never done a musical before. I can see him in the role originated by Rex Harrison, who not only portrayed Higgins in London and on Broadway, but also in the 1964 film.

Doctor Who Fan Video That Doesn't Suck
It's entirely possible to get sucked into watching hours of random videos on YouTube, but thanks to Tumblr, I don't always have to actively seek out things to watch. You won't be able to watch this video from the blog, but be sure to head over to YouTube and take a look. There are some truly talented and passionate folks out there who do great work.
Board Game That Does Suck
Fantasy Flight is responsible for some of my favorite games, several of which are centered around the Cthulhu Mythos. I was first introduced to the works of H.P. Lovecraft in high school when a friend was playing Call of Cthulhu at a FLGS. Over the last few years, I've played Arkham Horror, Elder Sign, and most recently Mansions of Madness. I'm a huge fan of all of those games and with the announcement of Eldritch Horror comes one more game into the Lovecraft stable from Fantasy Flight.
From the announcement from Fantasy Flight Games:
In Eldritch Horror, one to eight players take the roles of globetrotting investigators, who must work together to solve mysteries related to an Ancient One – an elder being intent on global destruction. Along the way, you’ll gather clues, encounter strange and mysterious circumstances, battle monsters, and embark on daring expeditions. Do you have the courage to save the world?
Needless to say, I'm already geeking out about this game. I have come to love cooperative board games and I feel like sometimes Arkham Horror isn't co-op enough with investigators splitting up to simply kill monsters rather than sharing in the action with one another. From the video, it's obvious that there's a huge storytelling aspect to the game, where not only is there a story aspect for the investigator, but for the Old One as well.
I cannot wait to get my hands on this game and play with my gaming group! I'll do a full preview and then once I've played the game, I'll do a full review of it here on Kentucky Geek Girl. Look for that later in Quarter Four.
There you have it, Stuff That Doesn't Suck for the last few weeks. What hasn't sucked for you?
I love that baby sloth video. "Swaddling a slippery sloth" and then that precious little "I'm so sorry, I'm there too" hug at the end. <3
ReplyDeleteI also find the Kim Possible mashup with Sherlock was great and well timed! Then of course The Doctor.
