Geeks Who Care: Ways To Help Tornado Victims

On Friday, the state of Kentucky was devastated by the worst tornado outbreak in over 20 years. West Liberty, located in Morgan County, was among the hardest hit. Please consider lending a hand with the relief efforts. If you're able to, I implore you to donate blood with the American Red Cross or Kentucky Blood Center. You can also text "Red Cross" to 90999 to donate $10 for relief efforts.

Here in Lexington, comic book shop Collectibles Etc will be accepting donations of supplies that will be taken to West Liberty. They posted this list of items that are greatly needed:

  • Kerosene heaters & kerosene; any sort of
  • Protein bars,
  • Beef jerky,
  • Gatorade-type drinks;
  • Baby items (formula, food, diapers, baby clothes);
  • Batteries of ALL sizes;
  • Clothes, especially socks, undergarments, work gloves;
  • Cleaning supplies; and any other items that you think would be useful in the clean-up and recovery.
  • Pet food
They have said that bottled water is NOT a concern for West Liberty right now, as it has been provided by the truckload by Walmart already. Collectibles Etc is located at 115 N Locust Hill Dr # 115 (Man O War Place shops near the Richmond Rd Kroger.)

The Salvation Army and Christian Appalachian Project are currently accepting non-perishable food items, clothing, and monetary donations.

Kentucky is my home and my heart absolutely breaks for those affected by the devastation. It would mean a great deal to me if everyone can rally around West Liberty (and all of the areas that suffered damage) so we can help lift them up and help them get through this tragic time.

Thank you all!
